GGSel moderation and why a product disappears from the showcase

Updated

GGSel checks products when they are created and at every noticeable edit. Three cases where we lost time and sales.

A category change pauses the product

Move a product to another category and GGSel takes it off sale until it is moderated again. It is not on the showcase for a few minutes, sometimes longer. If you move many products at once, do it in quiet hours and check afterwards that all of them are back on sale.

Why move them at all? A product in the wrong category is found worse: the buyer looks for a game's edition or platform, and your listing sits in the neighboring section. We once moved 137 products into the right editions and platforms — they became easier to find.

The text does not save because of one word

Sometimes GGSel answers with an error when you save a description, and it is not clear why. The cause is the site's protection, which treats a single word as dangerous. Usually it is a word that looks like a database command: GGSel once refused a search for the word “reunion” for us, because “union” is inside it.

Categories have a minimum price

Below a category's minimum GGSel will not save the price. So the price sometimes comes out higher than “cost plus markup”, and that is not a calculation error. If the product is cheap, check the minimum before you list it: it may turn out that you cannot sell it on GGSel at the price you need.

A hidden variant does not take a price change

If you manage prices through the API: the price of a hidden variant of a product cannot be changed, and GGSel answers “not found”. First show the variant, then change the price.
